New Gujarat State Subsidy Top-Up for Rooftop Solar (October 2026)

On 22 October 2026, the Gujarat Government's Energy and Petrochemicals Department issued G.R. No. EPCD/BUD/e-file/20/2025/2435/B1, adding a new state subsidy top-up for small residential rooftop solar systems, on top of the subsidy already available under the central PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The top-up applies to new rooftop systems with installed capacity up to 2.18 kWp: general category residential customers get an additional 10% of the benchmark cost, while SC/ST category customers get an additional 5%. The benchmark cost itself is unchanged — ₹50,000 per kW for the first 2kW and ₹45,000 per kW beyond that, as set by MNRE.
In practice, this meaningfully lowers the upfront cost for a small system. For a 1kW general-category system, the combined central and state subsidy now covers roughly ₹49,600 of a ₹55,000 system cost, leaving about ₹5,400 as the customer's share. For a 2kW system it's roughly ₹96,400 of ₹1,07,200 covered, leaving about ₹10,720. SC/ST category customers see an even smaller out-of-pocket share — see our updated subsidy page for the full breakdown by system size.
There are a few conditions to know before applying: the system must be commissioned on or after the G.R. date to qualify, the installed DC capacity must not exceed 2.18 kW, and customers who use this top-up cannot add further rooftop solar capacity for 3 years after installation. The subsidy is disbursed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) through your DISCOM (PGVCL for Kodinar and Gir Somnath), with GUVNL coordinating fund distribution.
If you were holding off on a small rooftop system waiting for the right moment, this is it — we're registering eligible customers for this top-up as part of every residential application, alongside the existing PM Surya Ghar subsidy paperwork we already handle.
