Monocrystalline vs Polycrystalline Solar Panels: Which Should You Choose?

Most rooftop solar systems today use either monocrystalline or polycrystalline panels, and the choice affects both upfront cost and the amount of power you can generate from a given roof area.

Monocrystalline panels are made from a single silicon crystal, giving them higher efficiency — typically 20%+ — which means fewer panels are needed to hit a target system size. This makes them the better fit when roof area is limited, which is common on residential bungalows in and around Kodinar.

Polycrystalline panels are made from multiple silicon fragments melted together. They're slightly less efficient and take up more space for the same output, but come at a lower per-watt cost — a reasonable option for larger roofs where space isn't the constraint, such as some industrial sheds and open ground-mount sites.

In practice, we size and recommend panel type after measuring your actual shadow-free roof area during the site survey, not before. For most home installations across Gir Somnath, we lean towards monocrystalline panels given typical roof sizes, but we'll always show you the trade-off in cost versus space for your specific site.
